He enjoys working on pianos as it gives an opportunity to be involved with the music performing industry and also work as a skilled craftsman.
Hyrum has been servicing pianos since 2004. He first trained at Brigham Young University as a student apprentice where he worked for over two years. After BYU he worked for the Utah Yamaha piano dealer, Piano Gallery, for approximately 5 years. He attended the Yamaha "Little Red Schoolhouse" training in Buena Park, CA at Yamaha USA headquarters. Desiring to get his hands on the best pianos around, Hyrum became an independent technician and started working with Daynes Music Company, Utah's Steinway and Sons dealer in 2011. He has attended and completed all Steinway and Sons factory training courses in Long Island City, New York, and is currently a regional specialist in servicing the new SPIRIO pianos developed by Steinway and Sons.
Hyrum's time at work is spent in training other technicians, preparing new pianos for sale at Daynes Music, rebuilding pianos and servicing concert instruments. He currently serves clients such as the Utah Symphony and the Utah State University Caine College of the Arts.
